Mind Jersey is one of two charities to benefit from funds raised during the forthcoming ‘CIXtreme Weekend’ sports festival being held at St Ouen’s bay on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June. The weekend will give Jersey a chance to witness professional BMX and Skateboard riders showing off their skills on the massive ramps which will be down there. A five aside football competition, involving at least 10 teams, is being held on the beach on Saturday afternoon whilst further out the Breda Surf Murrati will be taking place most of the day with a check in time of around 9am.
Later that evening an after party for the CIXtreme Weekend is being held at the Watersplash with doors opening at 10pm and closing at 2am. A band called Passafire, all the way from the USA, will be headlining and they will be supported by six times world champion scratch DJ Rafik who will be backed up with lots of local talent.
Over the weekend wristbands will be on sale with 50% of the money raised on Saturday 18th going to ‘The Caring Cooks Of Jersey’ whilst Mind Jersey will benefit from monies raised on Sunday. The organisers are hoping that this event will be well supported and funds raised for Mind Jersey will be in memory of James Stephen Bailey who passed away in January following a tough battle with mental illness. James was a very popular young man, with many friends and he was a keen and active sportsman.
James Le Feuvre, Executive Director of Mind Jersey, said: “We very grateful that this group of young people want to remember their friend in this way. The combination of a range of sporting activities, together with plenty of social events is a great way to spend the weekend and to stay in touch with friends old and new. Any funds raised for our charity by this event will be used to support and extend our work with young people and we hope that the weather will hold and that the weekend of events will be well supported”.
